Results Day 2010

The day you've feared has finally arrived! It's the day where you find out your grades! Everyone at KIC wishes you the best of luck! When you've got them have a listen to us =)

If things haven't gone well, it's not the end of the world! We'll be talking about clearing and options other than university.

If you're heading to Uni, we're going to share some of our favourite experiences and give some advice about the life style.

If you've got the results you wanted but aren't going to uni we'll be having a chin wag about that too!

Clearing in Wolverhampton

From 13th April 2011

Going through Clearing can be very stressful. Jamie had a chin wag with Paul Travill from the University Of Wolverhampton about the clearing process. He's the "Academic Registrar" which means he's the bloke in charge of Clearing places at Wolvo Uni.

Raj and Dani

From 18th August 2010

A huge thanks for Raj and Dani for chatting about their University experiences! Raj goes to the University of Staffordshire while Dani goes to the University of Wolverhampton. Check out their show on Monday 16th August for a glimpse into student life.

Not Going To Uni?

From 18th August 2010

University isn't your only option. There are so many courses out there that can give you all the qualifications you need to do an awesome job. Paula Arkell, from www.notgoingtouni.co.uk, chats to Jamie about all these alternatives.

Clearing

From 17th August 2010

You're exam results have come back but you haven't got the results that you needed. If you want to go to university these are the steps:

1) The first thing you should do is give the admissions tutor at your first-choice university a call. If you've just missed out on your grades you've got a chance of getting a place at your favourite Uni. It might be worth giving your second choice a ring as well. Just be calm and confident and explain the situation you're in.

2) If these Universities don't except you, you're automatically entered into clearing. This is like reapplying to universities that have extra places for students.

3) Have a look through all the courses that have spaces for clearing. You might need to look at similar courses and different universities. Once you've made a list of possible courses, make some notes. A few lines on why you're interested, and why you'd do well, plus any questions you have about the course, faculty or university. Then you're going to have to give a few universities a call.

4) Sit somewhere quiet with your notes, clearing number and grades to hand. Remember, you'll need a good phone connection so it's best to do this at home and not somewhere you're going to be disturbed.

5) Most tutors will tell you if you're successful on the phone but remember to get written confirmation of everything. Be sure this is the course you want to do as you can only accept one offer. You might want to have a wander around universities before you accept. If a uni has lots of clearing places they'll probably have an open day in August.

6) If clearing doesn't work out for you or you just can't be arsed there are other things you can do. Take a gap year, re-takes or work experience. You can re-applying next year.

This year, Ucas estimates that at least 170,000 applicants will be left without a place so it's worth sorting this all out quickly. The deadline for clearing is on 30th September. If you want more information log onto the UCAS website and I found The Guardian very helpful.

Thursday 19th August

From 16th August 2010

Don't worry your favourite shows are still on at the same time on Thursday! The Breakfast Breakdown with Tom starts your day, then Hear No Musical Evil with Ben, Yaz with the obviously named Yaz Show and ending with The Rich Bennett Show

KICs Thursday Team Start Reminiscing

From 16th August 2010

Our Thursday Team (Yaz, Tom, Ben, Kenny, Rich and Jamie), have all gone through the stress of results day. Some of them have been to University, some of them are at Uni and some never went. Throughout the day, we're going to be chatting about live after school. The stresses and all the good times! Listen on Thursday 19th August!

UCAS

From 16th August 2010

UCAS look after Uni applications. So if you want to go, you'll definitely know about online applications and tracking. Loads of information is available on their website.

If you've hit all of grades you need and got a confirmation letter from UCAS you're all sorted and going to Uni. You should get a letter from the University of your choice telling you what to do next.

If you've not done so well, you'll be automatically entered into Clearing. If you've got reasonable results and are pretty flexible you should be able to find a good place. You have to apply again to Universities with spaces for clearing.

Here are some links you might need on the UCAS website. If you want to know how to apply for University, have a look at some courses or know what grades you need to get have a look at the Six UCAS Steps on www.ucas.com/advisers/sixsteps If you're confused about UCAS Points have a look at www.ucas.com/advisers/ucas_tariff/
